Rassie Erasmus has come out in defence of Ireland coach Andy Farrell’s fiery response to the commentary directed at son Owen’s rescinded red card.
The England captain could be up before another disciplinary panel next week, and potentially miss the start of the World Cup, after World Rugby announced it would appeal against the decision to overturn his dismissal for a high tackle on Wales flanker Taine Basham last weekend.
The rugby world was stunned when an independent disciplinary panel overturned Farrell’s sending off, and even respected former referee Nigel Owens has weighed in on the matter, saying “it’s a red card”.

Andy has slammed much of the talk surrounding Owen by saying “the circus that’s gone on, in and around all of this, is absolutely disgusting, in my opinion, disgusting”.
Erasmus himself has been a divisive figure at times, for his criticism on social media of match officiating – for which he has copped two bans from World Rugby – and SA’s director of rugby took to Twitter to emphathise with the older Farrell.
Just my opinion: Andy Farrel just a great coach, man and father! From one of the toughest players in both codes to coaching English and Irish players(taking them to 1 in the world) Also handling what must be a bit of emotional situation with his son the way he does 🤝
