Rebels No 8 Amanaki Mafi may hold informal talks with teammate Lopeti Timani after their alleged fight in Dunedin last month.
Mafi was arrested and charged with intent to injure after allegedly assaulting Timani on a night out in Dunedin.
Mafi’s lawyer has requested that the court change a bail condition that stops him from associating with Timani so that the two could sit down for a restorative justice conference. Under New Zealand law, this allows two parties in a case to meet informally.
The judge granted the change, given that any meeting between the two is supervised by police.
Both Mafi and Timani were fined by the Rebels for breaching team protocols over the incident, and Rugby Australia is awaiting the outcome of the case before starting its own investigation.
