‘Robert du Preez really stood out’

Five former Springboks on which South African players impressed them in round one of Super Rugby.

Joel Stransky (former Bok flyhalf)

'The stand-outs for me were the two Du Preez brothers – Stormers flyhalf Robert du Preez and Sharks flank Jean-Luc. Robert’s goal-kicking under pressure was excellent, and both he and Jean-Luc are youngsters who showed great composure under enormous pressure.'

Ollie le Roux (former Bok prop)

'The Stormers pack of forwards were excellent [against the Bulls]. They showed they mean business.'

Kobus Wiese (former Bok lock)

‘Robert du Preez played well with experienced guys on his inside and outside. He kicked well at goal and also scored a good try. In the forwards, Eben Etzebeth and Peter-Steph du Toit were excellent. The front row also scrummed very well. I think overall the forward pack can be proud of their performance.’

Pieter Hendriks (former Bok wing)

‘Pieter-Steph du Toit and Eben Etzebeth impressed me in the Stormers game. Robert du Preez also had a good game. He’s definitely a talented player, but he’s got a long way to go. Arno Botha and Grant Hattingh were also really impressive for the Bulls as was Warrick Gelant – those three are players to watch for the future. I was also impressed with Cheetahs captain Francois Venter – now, he is a player.'

Chris Rossouw (former Bok hooker)

'Robert du Preez really stood out for me with his kicking game. I didn't watch all the games, but the Cheetahs also looked good.'
