Newly appointed Rugby Australia president Joe Roff has predicted a bright future for Australian rugby and the Wallabies under the leadership of coach Eddie Jones.
Despite Australia’s recent slump to seventh place in the rankings after three years under former coach Dave Rennie, Jones has a plan to return the Wallabies to world No 1.
Roff, a Wallabies and Brumbies great, believes that under Jones, the Wallabies can become a formidable side with a psychological edge to their game.
With just five Tests to go before the World Cup in France in September, Jones will need to align the stars in the Australian camp quickly. His first game back in charge of the Wallabies is against the Springboks in Pretoria on July 8.

Speaking to AAP, Roff, who was appointed to his new role on 25 April, acknowledges that Australia has plenty of talent but the national team lacks a winning mentality, something Jones is well equipped to develop during his time in the hot seat.
“The psychology and the one percent wins is something that in my early days playing for the Wallabies we didn’t quite have but we learnt that and we built that as a team,” he said.
Jones is renowned for his ability to instill confidence and a winning attitude in his players, and Roff believes this is precisely what the Wallabies need to succeed. “Eddie will bring that edge, that psychological edge to the game. Players will feel that and it will rub off on them,” he said.
