Scarra Ntubeni could miss the start of the Stormers' 2016 Vodacom Super Rugby campaign.
According to Die Burger, the hooker has a calf injury that could rule him out of his side's opening match against the Bulls at Newlands on 27 February.
The 24-year-old could also spend longer on the sidelines.
If Ntubeni is ruled out, 25-year-old former Bulls hooker Bongi Mbonambi would start for the Stormers.
