Sharks adopt ‘no play, no pay’ policy

Sharks players who are suspended for foul play will in future see their wages docked.

According to The Mercury's rugby writer Mike Greenaway this no-nonsense resolution passed at a recent meeting of the board of the Sharks directors at Kings Park.

Bismarck du Plessis (four weeks), Frans Steyn (five weeks) and Jean Deysel (seven weeks) are all currently serving bans for foul play.

'We have decided that going forward there must be a policy of “no play, no pay” should a player be suspended for foul play,' said Sharks chairman Stephen Saad.

To enforce this, players being contracted to the union in future would be asked to have the ‘no play, no pay’ clause inserted in their contracts.

Saad said the board had taken legal advice before introducing the new censure.
