Currently based at French club Stade Francais, Koch could return to South Africa for the first time since 2016, when he completes the move to Durban in June. After starting his career with the Pumas and DHL Stormers, Koch moved to England with Saracens, where he spent a successful five seasons.
The 32-year-old joined Wasps last year, but was among the players and staff made redundant after the English club entered administration.
Should Koch sign for the Sharks, the 2019 World Cup winner would add to a big contingent of Springboks, which includes Eben Etzebeth, Bongi Mbonambi and Ox Nche.
