Six moments that mattered

The key moments from the Vodacom Super Rugby match between the Lions and Sharks at Ellis Park, according to SIMON BORCHARDT.

1st minute – From the kick-off, Odwa Ndungane breaks away from inside his 22 and takes play into the Lions' half. It gives the Sharks early momentum.

19th minute – Having kicked two penalties, Fred Zeilinga leaves the field with a hamstring injury and is replaced by Heimar Williams, with Frans Steyn moving to flyhalf. And Jannie du Plessis is yellow-carded for a cynical shoulder check on Lionel Mapoe, with Marnitz Boshoff kicking the resultant penalty goal.

36th minute – With the scores locked at 6-6, the Sharks attack down the left touchline, with JP Pietersen passing inside to S'bura Sithole. But Willie Britz makes an excellent tackle and the Lions win a penalty at the breakdown, 10m out from their tryline.

40th minute – With seconds remaining in the half, Beast Mtawarira has the ball ripped from his grasp. Willem Alberts dives on it in the in-goal area, but TV replays show that Alberts had held Stefan Watermeyer back, and the Sharks are penalised.

48th minute – Frans Steyn kicks a monster penalty to put the Sharks into the lead, and slots another two minutes later.

66th minute – With the Sharks leading 15-12, Alwyn Hollenbach has the ball ripped off him in the tackle near the Lions' 10m line. Lwazi Mvovo breaks away, chips ahead and regathers the ball to score a try gives his side a 10-point cushion.
