Steyn commits future to Bulls

Morne Steyn has followed up on his decision to retire from Test rugby by signing a contract extension with the Vodacom Bulls, the union’s president has revealed.

Blue Bulls Rugby Union president Willem Strauss announced on Friday that Steyn has signed a new deal with the Pretoria team until 2023.

“Morne Steyn’s contract has been extended to June 2023,” said Strauss.

Strauss added that Steyn’s “value as mentor and player is immeasurable”.

The 37-year-old Steyn recently decided to hang up his Test boots after making a memorable comeback for the Springboks during the British & Irish Lions series and the Rugby Championship.

Steyn replicated his 2009 heroics by slotting a late penalty to give the Springboks a series-deciding victory in the third and final Test.

Since returning to the Bulls, Steyn has played a major role in helping the team win both Super Rugby Unlocked and the 2020 Currie Cup.
