One of the Stormers’ highly respected tacticians has reportedly emerged as a potential target for Steve Borthwick to join the England boss’ support staff.
According to Rapport, Borthwick is eyeing Stormers defence coach Norman Laker, and has included him on a shortlist to replace Felix Jones, who recently resigned after less than a year with England.
Jones, a former Springbok attack coach, was “unhappy with the unstable working environment” in England’s camp, as The Times of London reported.

His departure leaves a void, particularly after his successful implementation of Jacques Nienaber’s defensive blueprint during the Six Nations.
Laker, who has been with the Stormers for five years, is contracted until July 2027. However, Rapport reveals that his contract allows for early release if an international opportunity arises.
He is regarded as one of South Africa’s top defence coaches, alongside Jaque Fourie, Joey Mongalo, and Charl Strydom.
