Stormers keen on ex-Ikeys coach’s services

Tom Dawson-Squibb is understood to be lined up for an assistant coaching gig with the Stormers in the Currie Cup.

According to Rapport, Stormers boss John Dobson has backed Hanyani Shimange, who oversees the Stormers’ pathway programme for juniors into the senior setup, in securing the services of the former UCT Ikey Tigers coach and Proteas performance specialist.

Dawson-Squibb would replace outgoing assistant Brendan Venter, who has been appointed as director of rugby at Saracens.

“I think Tom will bring a lot of energy and focus to what is a very, very difficult campaign due to the Greatest Rivalry series, other Springbok matches and the Stormers’ preparation for the United Rugby Championship,” a source was quoted by Rapport.

Under the guidance of Dawson-Squibb, Ikeys reached three Varsity Cup finals between 2019 and 2024.

He has also worked as a performance coach with the Proteas and the Netherlands, while he has consulted with Edinburgh and the Melbourne Rebels.
