The Stormers have been linked with a move to sign several SA speedsters, as the defending URC champions accelerate their squad with Cape-born players for next season.
According to an article in Sunday newspaper Rapport, the Stormers have their sights set on bringing back Springbok fullback Warrick Gelant from Racing 92 in France.
Gelant was central to the Stormers’ success in the inaugural URC campaign, the dynamic fullback creating and scoring electric tries.
Arguably the greatest try in Stormers history was created by Dillyn Leyds against the Chiefs in 2017, and La Rochelle’s two-time Champions Cup winner is believed to be on the Stormers shopping list, along with another former Stormers flyer, Edwill van der Merwe, who has been in sensational try-scoring form since joining the Lions in 2021.

Furthermore, it is understood the Stormers are set to re-sign lock JD Schickerling from Japanese outfit Kobe Steelers.
A former SA Schools, Junior Springbok and Western Province age-group star, the 28-year-old Schickerling represented the Stormers and WP between 2014 and 2021.
“He hasn’t signed with the Stormers yet, but he is back and will sign with them,” a source is quoted by the Rapport.
The signing would serve as a replacement for Ernst van Rhyn, who is heading to English Premiership club Sale Sharks next season.
