UCT will be without captain Nama Xaba until the Varsity Cup playoffs after the flank injured his ankle against UWC.
Maties will begin their Varsity Cup title defence with a tough encounter against Wits in Stellenbosch on Monday, while UJ kick off the competition against Pukke, UCT host the newly-promoted UWC and Tuks take on CUT.
