WP Rugby president Thelo Wakefield remains optimistic that the ongoing conflict between Paul Treu and the rest of the Stormers coaching staff can be resolved amicably.
Treu reportedly stormed out of a season review meeting last week, saying he’d had enough of being mistreated and was not going to take it anymore.
He later declined to comment on the matter and referred all questions to Western Province Rugby.
On Wednesday, Wakefield, CEO Paul Zacks, director of rugby Gert Small and all four Stormers coaches (Treu, Robbie Fleck, Paul Feeney and Russell Winter) met to address the issue.
Afterwards, Wakefield said he believes the solution will be found in due course and that the issue was blown out of proportion in the media.
‘A fruitful and amicable meeting was held, with all members committed to finding solutions. The meeting took the form of a fact-finding and diagnostic exercise, forming part of our season review process.
‘The team management matter in our opinion has been overly amplified in the media and is clearly an internal personnel matter that will be resolved.
‘We believe that we have an exceptional group for next season and want to ensure all issues and potential stumbling blocks are dealt with and clarity provided where required, to ensure we have the best possible chance in the Super Rugby competition next season.
‘We are convinced that as part of our overall season review, the process started today will undoubtedly assist in us attaining that goal.’
