With 14 weeks until the 2023-24 campaign kicks off, one of the leading tacticians in the Vodacom United Rugby Championship has been shown the door as director of rugby.
Despite fervently denying bullying claims, Dai Young was suspended by Cardiff Rugby on 20 April, pending an investigation. A barrister assigned to the case ruled that there was “insufficient evidence to support the allegations”.

However, this verdict failed to mend the broken ties, leading to the Welsh club and Young parting ways.

A statement from Cardiff Rugby explained: “While the barrister found no grounds to take further action, the strain this process caused on our working relationship with Dai Young became evident. Therefore, we have mutually agreed to terminate Dai’s employment contract.”
During his two-year tenure, Young’s contributions led Cardiff to become the highest-placed Welsh team in the URC, securing a return to the Champions Cup. The club expressed its gratitude, saying: “We wish Dai the very best with whatever the future holds for him.”
As the new season looms, Cardiff is already setting sights on finding Young’s successor at Arms Park.
