The first match of the Premier Interschools season kicks off in the last outpost for a very traditional derby between Durban High School and Maritzburg College in Durban.
Durban High came out victorious in the last clash between these two schools in April 2022, winning 38-14.
The first match between these two schools was played in 1910 and College came out on the winning side, taking victory by 5-0.
From 1913 the derbies between College and School consisted of two annual formats on a home and away basis with College dominating the earlier exchanges.
In the 1920’s DHS started coming more into their own as they won 11 out of 15 matches during the period 1922 to 1931.
From the 1930’s up to 1970’s the matches were very evenly spread with no school dominating the other.
From the early 1970’s up into the late 1980’s, College started dominating the era with only two losses to DHS in 30 matches. Since the late 2000’s they have started to play each other only once in a season again.
