Leroy Carter scored a stunning try, and created another, as the Chiefs reclaimed top spot on the Super Rugby Pacific log after smashing the Highlanders on Saturday.
Still smarting from last week’s upset loss to the Waratahs, Craig McMillan’s charges ground their way to a 13-10 half-time lead in Hamilton, before a 17-minute burst yielded four tries for a 46-10 win.

Earlier, the Brumbies shutout Moana Pasifika for a bonus-point 24-0 victory, while the Fijian Drua dug deep to keep the ‘Tahs winless on the road with a 28-14 triumph in Lautoka.

And in a pulsating finish to the day’s final match in Perth, the Force escaped with a 17-17 golden-point draw against the Hurricanes.
Whichever team scored first in the 10 minutes of extra time would win the game, and Force flyhalf Ben Donaldson’s 51m penalty attempt in the third minute drifted out to the left. He had another crack a few minutes later, but his drop-goal attempt from 30m was charged down.
The most dramatic moment came after the final siren, when Canes No 10 Ruben Love unleashed a drop-goal attempt from 25m out. He struck it sweetly, but the ball hit the left post and bounced away, leaving the teams to settle for a share of the spoils.
