Weakened Wales too good for Tonga

Wales had to work hard for a 24-6 win against Tonga in wet conditions at Eden Park on Friday.

The Welsh, who were without 15 first-choice players on British & Irish Lions duty, scored two tries, the last of which was a penalty try in the 79th minute.

Wales led 8-0 after 19 minutes, thanks to a Sam Davies penalty and a try to Alex Cuthbert. Gareth Anscombe did well to draw the tackler and then unleash Cuthbert down the touchline. The winger grubbered the ball ahead and fell on it over the line.

Sonatane Takulua slotted two penalties for Tonga, but another three from Davies gave Wales a 14-6 lead with 12 minutes remaining.

The Dragons then capped off the win with a last-minute penalty try, which came after Tonga collapsed a driving maul.
