Monnas wary of EG Jansen

EG Jansen will host Monument on Saturday in a repeat of the Tuks Super 16 final.

It will be the third meeting between the schools this season, with both sides having tasted victory.

Monnas, currently third on the FNB rankings, have suffered three losses in 2015, with the other two coming against Paul Roos and Paarl Boys’, who are above them in the rankings. Their most recent results have seen them victors by over 100 points, with a 108-0 drubbing of Rustenburg, and a 110-7 victory over Florida, although the game prior was their 29-17 loss to EG Jansen.

Despite their excellent ranking, Monnas coach Hans Coetzee knows the threat EG Jansen pose.

‘They have home-ground advantage, and won last time, so they’ll be seen as favourites,' he told SARugbymag.co.za. 'We can’t play the level we need to without thinking we have the opportunity to win. We’ve got a couple of ideas we want to put in place, so we’ll try our best.’

Monument are missing 1st XV regulars prop CJ Botes and lock Reinhardt Nothnagel for the clash. They'll be replaced by Dewald Schoeman and Christopher Havenga respectively.

Their opponents have also made two changes with lock Dandré Brand and centre Marco Niemand being replaced by Dillon Rubus and Cameron Crous.

EG Jansen are ranked 13th after their 39-14 triumph over Glenwood last weekend. They have won eight out of their 12 games this season, and will hope to get another victory over their Gauteng rivals this weekend.

However, coach Anton Lubbe isn't getting caught up in the hype.

'It's really just another game,' he said. 'We are very positive after our last match, especially our defence which was exceptional, we want to focus on sticking to that and seeing how the game goes.'

Other big games this weekend see St Andrew’s host bitter rivals Grey High, Paul Roos travel south to take on Rondebosch, and Jeppe up against Affies.
