Forwards coach Rito Hlungwani has championed Neethling Fouche for Springbok consideration, citing the tighthead prop’s performances for the DHL Stormers.
Despite the departure of Steven Kitshoff and injuries to key players, Fouche’s impact in the Stormers pack and commitment has been outstanding this season.
Speaking to Netwerk24, Hlungwani praises the 31-year-old Fouche’s passion for the team, emphasising his work ethic and leadership, and reckons the Boks should consider Fouche for a callup, highlighting his scrummaging and ball-carrying skills.
HALF-TIME TALK: Stormers strike when it matters
“It’s a dream for many players to one day play for the Stormers, but Nettas is extremely passionate about it,” Hlungwani told Netwerk24.
“He works very hard, wants to constantly improve and I think he has put his hand up. He is a warrior and I think he can fit comfortably into the national setup thanks to his work ethic.
“I think they [the Springboks] should open the door for him, at least for the alignment camps so they can get a look at whether he will fit in that environment. I believe he will.”

Hlungwani also lauds loosehead prop Sti Sithole, who rejoined the Stormers this season. He shares that Fouche was thrilled about Sithole’s arrival, recalling their encounters from U19 days.
He credits the 30-year-old Sithole’s focus on technique and attributes his success to the team’s supportive environment.
“Neethling used brute strength and his big body, while everything for Sti revolved around technique,” Hlungwani said. “Sti has been focusing on technique since junior level, which excites Nettas. Sti was always a tough opponent for him.
“He came in and felt that everyone respected him and valued his input. You can see it in the way he plays.”
