Bulls player to face rape charge

Junior Blue Bulls player Khwezi Mafu will again appear in court on 8 January following his arrest on allegations of sexual assault.

The Blue Bulls Company confirmed the allegation on Tuesday, while the player’s legal representative Philip Masiza told EWN Sport that he has been charged with rape.

The incident is said to have occurred in Port Elizabeth on 28 December, as Mafu allegedly escorted the woman home along with his friend.

Although Mafu appeared in court for a bail hearing on 2 January, the matter was postponed until the 8th.

The 19-year-old had previously been named as an ‘apprentice’ in the Bulls’ wider Super Rugby training squad when it was announced in November.

Mafu attended Grey High in Port Elizabeth, and played for the EP Craven Week and SA Schools sides in 2015 and 2016.
