Garsfontein High made a statement with a win over Monument in a repeat of last year’s Noordvaal Cup final, while Bishops held on to beat Rondebosch in Cape Town.
In a rematch of the 2022 Nordvaal Cup final, Garsfontein walked away as 39-31 winners on their home field in Pretoria. It was Garsfontein’s first win over Monument since 2018 and saw them avenge their 30-28 loss to the White Bulls in the final.
EG Jansen, who beat Monument last week, continued their excellent form with another big win, 74-7 against Menlopark. Fullback David Twala scored two tries, while flanker Zaide-Leigh Rippenaar dotted down three times for a hat-trick.
Meanwhile, the first Bish-Bosch derby of the year saw Bishops produce a defensive masterclass to win 13-8. Having already beaten Wynberg and SACS, a victory at Rondebosch saw Bishops claim a triple-crown in Cape Town’s southern suburbs series.
