Send local Boks on tour of SA

With the overseas leg of the PRO14 Rainbow Cup scrapped, fans want to see SA Rugby implement a Springboks vs Provinces series instead of a dual tournament.
SA Rugby on Wednesday confirmed that the South African teams were not granted permission to travel in time to allow the PRO14 Rainbow Cup to be played as originally planned.

PRO14 Rugby and SA Rugby will operate dual tournaments with no cross-hemisphere fixtures.

The ‘southern’ tournament will be called Rainbow Cup SA and will feature fixtures between the Lions, Bulls, Sharks and Stormers.

However, after a poll on this website, the majority of readers decided that they would like to see a Springboks vs Provinces series as an alternative to the Rainbow Cup. The series, in which the Springboks would hypothetically faced the Sharks, Western Province, Bulls, Lions, Pumas, Cheetahs and Griquas, got 30.22% of the vote.

This would have provided an opportunity for the Springboks to gel as a unit before the upcoming British & Irish Lions series, while also allowing the various provinces to test their depth.

A regular Currie Cup tournament featuring all the Springbok players was the next favourite, with just over 27% of the vote.

Also getting attention was a repeat of the Springbok Green vs Gold trial match played as a Test series (14.99%) and a province-of-origin series (10.45%), where South African players represent the province they were born in.
