Erasmus wins top award

Rassie Erasmus was named Coach of the Season at the annual Celtic Pro12 Awards ceremony in Dublin on Sunday.

Erasmus has turned Munster fortunes around, with the province clinching top spot after the regular Pro12 season and making the semi-finals of the European Rugby Champions Cup.

'It's always an honour to achieve something,' said Erasmus. 'But I think it's a difficult thing to give to one person, because every squad has three or four coaches. Between myself, Felix Jones, Jacques Nienaber and Jerry Flannery, I think I do the least amount of coaching. So I'll say it's a coaching team award.'

Erasmus, who joined Munster as director of rugby, admitted that his role changed drastically after the tragic passing of Anthony Foley.

'When Axel passed away, my role got amplified and that was a challenge,' he said.

Meanwhile, former Bok scrumhalf Ruan Pienaar, who played his last game for Ulster on Saturday, received the Try of the Season award for his brilliant effort against the Glasgow Warriors.

Ex-Stormers flank Michael Rhodes was named Saracens Players' Player of the Season at the club's awards ceremony in London on Sunday.
