British & Irish Lions legend Alun Wyn Jones has weighed in on Rassie Erasmus and the Springboks using coloured lights in the coaches’ box at the World Cup.
Erasmus hauled out one of his old plays in the defending champions’ opening victory against Scotland on Sunday. During the first half in Marseille, SA’s director of rugby and assistant coach Felix Jones caught the attention of the cameras with their disco light show.
Head coach Jacques Nienaber explained that the system was used to communicate efficiently with the support staff on the sidelines, and speaking during a panel discussion with former Ireland internationals Rob Kearney and Andrew Trimble on Virgin Media Sport’s One Live, the 158-Test Jones suggested “genius and eccentricity go hand in hand”.
