After burning Bryan Habana in the opening round, Herschel Jantjies now faces Tonderai Chavhanga to determine which Springbok made the most impressive debut.
Jantjies won the opening round with a comfortable 86% of the vote to dismiss his first-round opponent Bryan Habana. The Stormers No 9 got his Bok career off to a flyer when he scored the opening try against Australia at Ellis Park in the first round of the 2019 Rugby Championship.
Jantjies played a crucial role in Lood de Jager’s try minutes later before the wily scrumhalf made it a debut to remember with a second try in the match.
A tough challenge awaits Jantjies in round 2 as he goes up against Chavhanga’s six-try haul in his first Test for South Africa. Chavhanga was 21 in 2005 when he made his bow on the wing against Uruguay in East London.

He scored six tries in the Boks’ 134-3 demolition job, and still holds the record for the most tries by a Springbok in a Test.
The Boks were 25 points up when Jaco van der Westhuyzen’s skip-pass found Chavhanga on the wing, and the speedster dotted down for his first Test try.
CJ van der Linde put Chavhanga in for his second of the afternoon before Marius Joubert’s looping pass found the debutant streaking down the touchline for his third.
At the start of the fourth quarter, replacement Brent Russell pulled in the last defender before passing to Chavhanga who bagged his fourth.

Joubert was on hand again as Chavhanga scored his fifth, feeding an inside ball into the flyer’s waiting arms before lock Albert van den Berg’s pass made history by setting-up the winger’s sixth of the match.
