From fleet footwork to brute strength, the Boks scored tries of all shapes and sizes at the tournament, but the first round pits two South African backs against each other in the form of Mapimpi’s score against Romania and Le Roux’s try against Tonga.

The Boks were already 28 points up against Tonga in their final Pool B match when Le Roux produced a bit of magic to execute a magnificent one-handed grab off a Canan Moodie pass before beating three defenders to the try line.

In a 76-0 thrashing of Romania, both Cobus Reinach and Mampimpi bagged hat-tricks, but the Bok winger’s second try was the most impressive of the lot, putting his searing pace on display and rounding Romania’s Gabriel Pop for the finish.
