Bishops humiliate Rondebosch

Right wing Keenan Jacobs scored four tries as Bishops thrashed arch-rivals Rondebosch 52-14.

Hosts Rondebosch made the better start to the game with their forwards dominating. After all the early pressure, though, Bishops scored against the run of play when Jacobs regathered his chip kick over the tryline.

Bishops then piled on the pressure, but Rondebosch's defence stood firm. But poor handling again cost Rondebosh, when a dazzling Bishops counter-attack resulted in a converted try for left wing André Manuel.

All the defensive work Bosch put in earlier was then undone when Bishops' backline cut through them with some deft offloading and stepping for Jacobs to score either side of the break. Centre Corniel Smit added both conversions, stretching their lead to 28-0.

The Rondebosch players looked as shell-shocked as their supporters in the stands and Bishops took full advantage. First lock Justin Heunis ran 40m for an intercept try, before loosehead prop William Day hammered over the line from close range.

The hosts worked their way into Bishops' 22 nicely but failed to strike. They were caught on the counter yet again and the flying Jacobs was on the end of the final pass for his fourth and Bishops' seventh try. Rondebosch eventually scored two converted touchdowns, but not before conceding an eighth try and bragging rights to Bishops.
