The Blitzboks scored a late try to overcome rivals Fiji and progress to the Dubai Sevens final on Sunday.
A 12th-minute try from young forward Masande Mtshali gave the Blitzboks a 14-7 victory.
The defending champions will take on Argentina, who snatched a late win over series champions New Zealand, in the final at 5.53pm on Sunday evening.
An impressive first-half performance saw the Blitzboks create plenty of opportunities and eventually take the lead just before the break when Justin Geduld dived over for a self-converted try.
Fiji roared back in the second half and excellent hands created a opportunity for Pilipo Bukayaro to level the scores.
However, as he did in the pool stage victory over New Zealand, Mtshali stepped up to score the winning try and send the Blitzboks into the final.
