Blitzboks’ injury crisis deepens

The Blitzboks have suffered yet another injury setback after Justin Geduld was ruled out of the Sydney Sevens with a shoulder injury.

Geduld was injured when he fell awkwardly during a tackle against New Zealand in Saturday's pool match in Wellington. It has since been confirmed the playmaker will return home for treatment, with the uncapped Tim Agaba called up to replace him.

Geduld joins an ever-growing Blitzboks injury list, which already includes Rayno Benjamin, Werner Kok, Frankie Horne, Kyle Brown, Cecil Afrika and Branco du Preez.

Head coach Neil Powell said this is an opportunity for Agaba to show what he's capable of.

'He played very well for the EP Kings in the Currie Cup and also starred for the Sevens Academy side in their three tournaments in Dubai and South America respectively. I know he is still inexperienced. But the only way to test whether a player is capable of playing at this level is by giving him a chance.'
