A tightly contested first half saw the Springbok Sevens take a 10-7 lead into the break, with captain Davids scoring the opening before setting up Quewin Nortje with a crossfield kick just before half time.
While Canada troubled South Africa with their physical approach in the first half, the Blitzboks had far better control of the second half, stretching their lead to 10 points when Davids sidestepped his way over from a quick-tap penalty.
David Brits and Leyds came off the bench to make their debuts in the green and gold. It just a couple of minutes for Leyds to make an impact, exploiting a narrow to score his first try for the Blitzboks to cap the victory.
The Springbok Sevens next face Spain at 12.22pm in their final game of the day, before taking on Argentina on Saturday morning in their final pool match.
