Former Springbok skipper Bob Skinstad says Manie Libbok’s speed will give the rookie Test flyhalf the edge over veteran Ireland playmaker Johnny Sexton on Saturday.
Their match-up is expected to be one of the key showdowns in a blockbuster World Cup Pool B clash between the world’s No 1 and 2 teams in Saint-Denis, and whoever wins will influence the result.
Sexton is an icon of Leinster and Ireland rugby, and last week, the 38-year-old became his country’s leading Test points scorer.
Libbok’s international career is in its infancy, yet the 26-year-old has shown a big-match temperament that belies his 10 Test appearances, while also showcasing exceptional game-breaking that has made him a key figure for the DHL Stormers.

Quoted by IOL Sport, the 42-Test Skinstad teamed up with BoyleSports to preview the clash between Ireland and South Africa.
“It is such an intriguing battle and what we are doing is rating Sexton on how he has controlled rugby over the last 10 years, versus the potential impact Manie can make over the next decade with his innovative play,” he said.
“It is age and treachery versus youth and exuberance. But I will add that Manie is also a wily performer relative to his age. His no-look kick-pass for Kurt-Lee Arendse’s try against Scotland had the confidence of a man who has played 50 Tests.
“Comparing Manie to Sexton, I back Manie with his speed in open play, his cover defence and his stunning counter-attacking – Sexton doesn’t have that, but he does boast years of tactical management and immaculate goal kicking.”
