Reports linking Springbok centre Andre Esterhuizen with a switch to France have resurfaced, with three-time European champions Toulon the interested party.
According to reputable French publicationĀ Midi Olympique, Toulon are in negotiations with Esterhuizen’s representatives over signing the 2023 World Cup winner at the end of the season.
Toulon have already bulked up their pack for the 2024-25 campaign by singing England internationals Kyle Sinckler and Lewis Ludlam. However, the club reportedly sees centre as an important position to strengthen, and are looking particularly for a strong ball-carrier.
While talks have been held between Toulon and Esterhuizen’s agent, the Harlequins player’s wage are said to be a stumbling block, but the club is still hopeful of finalising the transfer.
Esterhuizen was linked with a move to Lyon earlier this month, as a possible replacement for versatile Fijian Josua Tuisova.
However, Harlequins CEO Laurie Dalrymple took to social media to refute Esterhuizen is weighing up a decision to part ways with the English club.
If Toulon are unable to sign Esterhuizen, the club would reportedly look into bringing England centre Manu Tuilagi or NRL star Angus Crichton to France.
