Siya Kolisi, Franco Mostert and Canan Moodie joined the chorus of well-wishers for Dricus du Plessis, who became the first South African to win a title in the UFC on Sunday.
The 30-year-old Du Plessis emulated the Springboks by claiming a one-point victory in his bout with American Sean Strickland, to be crowned the new middleweight UFC champion in Toronto.
Following the fight, SA’s director of rugby Rassie Erasmus hailed Du Plessis, who was in attendance when South Africa won the Rugby World Cup in Paris last year, as a “warrior”, while Bok prop Ox Nche also celebrated Du Plessis’ triumph.
World champions Kolisi, Mostert and Moodie, too, posted their congratulations on social media.
