Jacques Nienaber says Jaden Hendrikse is set to get his shot for the Springboks in the penultimate World Cup warm-up against Wales in Cardiff on Saturday.
Hendrikse was one of the beneficiaries of the Springboks’ surprise decision to take four scrumhalves to the World Cup, having yet to play a Test this year due to injury and a family tragedy.
The 22-year-old is set to make his season debut as the Boks finalise their World Cup plans against Wales.
STRANSKY: Manie must answer goalkicking question
“Jaden needs to get a chance now, rather than Grant [Williams]. We would like to see where Jaden is,” Nienaber was quoted by Rugby365.
“We have seen him in training, but that’s different. So it would be good to see Jaden in action, if we can, as well as Grant,” Nienaber said.
“I think Faf [de Klerk] also needs more game-time. Cobus [Reinach] was exceptional when he played, especially against Argentina – it was probably the best that he has ever played for the Boks.
“Faf was also brilliant, even against Argentina.”
According to Sunday newspaper Rapport, the Springboks are also set to give RG Snyman his first start of the year, after the second-row giant played off the bench against Australia, New Zealand and Argentina.
With Lood de Jager out due to a heart condition, the Bok coaches will reportedly want to see if Snyman can manage the lineouts, as he has been doing for Munster since returning from a long-term injury.
