Boks targeting 80-minute performance

Siya Kolisi says the Springboks want to produce an all-round performance against Scotland at Murrayfield on Saturday.

After a narrow defeat to England and a last-gasp victory over France, it is safe to say the Boks have played in fits and starts on their European tour. The France game, in particular, showed this as the Boks went 23-9 down before roaring back to score a last-minute try and steal the victory.

Speaking to the media in Edinburgh, Kolisi said the team had been hard at work to put together their first well-rounded performance under Rassie Erasmus.

‘It has been a really good week. We have worked really hard and had to look at ourselves after the tough first half last week. We have prepared really well and are excited for this weekend.

‘It [the France win] was special for us as a team. The way it happened made it more special. The boys showed fight from the beginning to the end but we made it tough for ourselves. It was also nice to see the things that we were training come through for us in the game.

‘We just want improvement each week. The ultimate goal is to play and do what we can for 80 minutes. As long as we keep improving, I know it will come somewhere. We will definitely be pushing for it this week.’

Kolisi was full of praise for Erasmus, who changed things up to ensure the Boks were well prepared.

‘Coach Rassie, his management team and others have prepared us really well. Where we would be having breaks, we are now training. So we are always active and he made it so simple – it is only 14 games that you play for the Springboks [this year].

‘He wants to make sure for the game he wants us to play that we are physically and mentally fit. He has experience from coaching here last year, so he knows what is needed. We have been the most prepared this season that we have ever been.’
