The loss of Malcolm Marx is a massive blow for the Springboks in France, given the legendary impact the hooker has made for the world champions over the years.
One of the original members of the Bomb Squad that helped South Africa win the 2019 World Cup, Marx has been ruled out of the remainder of this year’s tournament with a long-term knee injury.
Widely considered the best hooker on the planet, the 29-year-old rake is as good as any specialist fetcher over the ball, and has become too good of an all-round threat for the Boks to not be there from the first whistle.
He, too, has become the top try-scorer among forwards in Bok history – scoring in a record win against the All Blacks at Twickenham to take his tally to 17.
