The Vodacom Bulls have officially confirmed the termination of Sbu Nkosi’s contract, bringing the Springbok winger’s turbulent time in Pretoria to an end.
Having arrived to much fanfare in pre-season last year, following a difficult end to his Sharks career, Nkosi has come to a “mutual agreement” with the Vodacom Bulls to end his spell at Loftus Versfeld after just one season.
The 27-year-old’s struggles since joining the Vodacom Bulls have been well documented, from going missing mid-season due to mental health problems, to missing a chance to tour with the Springboks in November due to issues with his passport.
A not-so-subtle dig at the Vodacom Bulls on his social media page, while touring with the World XV in England, has been the final straw as it saw director of rugby Jake White give a damning public assessment on Nkosi’s form, as well as the Springbok winger’s future at the Pretoria outfit.
“I would like to thank Sbu for all that he has contributed towards our campaign during his time with us,” said Bulls chief executive Edgar Rathbone in a press statement.
“I know that it wasn’t an easy time for him personally, but I am confident that the support we provided to him was invaluable. Having a Springbok winger of his calibre in our team has been a pleasure. I know that he now feels as though it is the best time for him to move on and we respect his wishes.”
Nkosi looks set to continue his career overseas, as the DHL Stormers have already turned down the opportunity to sign him.
