A massive brawl broke out between players and fans following a Super League A club match between Helderberg and St Georges RFC in Strand on Saturday.
Helderberg claimed a 43-17 win over rivals St Georges in a club match in Western Province’s first division of amateur rugby.
However, the post-match scenes were marred by a massive brawl involving both clubs’ players and fans.
It is unclear at this point what started the fight, but there was clear tension between the two teams when they lined up to shake hands after the match, with angry words being exchanged and a bit of pushing and shoving.
This is the latest ugly incident to come out of a club rugby match in the country. In March, shocking video footage emerged of a violent pitch invasion shortly after full-time in a club rugby match between Jeffreys Bay and PE Harlequins.
More recently, Sport24 reported players getting into a physical scuffle and a referee being slapped during a match between Kowie United and Swallows RFC (Makhanda) in Port Alfred.
SA Rugby president Mark Alexander in May confirmed that he would be writing to all 15 member unions of SARU, urging their disciplinary committees to take the strongest possible action against individuals and clubs involved in physical or verbal abuse.
