Victor Sekekete and Ruan Pienaar can’t wait for another crack at the Pumas, when the Cheetahs and the defending Currie Cup champions contest this weekend’s final.
The Pumas will defend their crown against the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein on Saturday after the teams from Mpumalanga and the Free State won their respective semi-finals this weekend.
The Free Staters beat the Vodacom Bulls 39-10 to secure home advantage for the season decider, while Jimmy Stonehouse’s troops earned the right to defend their title courtesy of a 26-20 win over the Sharks in Durban.
Pienaar, who masterfully kicked 22 points on Saturday, is keen to erase the memory of last year’s semi-final between the Cheetahs and Pumas, who stunned Hawies Fourie’s men 38-35 on their home turf.

“We’ve tried to put that [semi-final loss to the Pumas] on the back seat. Last year was a bitter pill to swallow, and it was tough for all of us,” the veteran playmaker said in a post-match interview.
“But I think we are slowly building momentum, and it’s all about preparation going into next weekend and being ready for the final. In a final, anything can happen – whoever pitches up and does the little things well. It’s always difficult … It’s too close to call always.”
Skipper Sekekete added: “Home final, everybody’s happy about it! The team is excited about it, the people of Bloemfontein have been looking forward to it.
“We’ve all missed the hype, and I would like to say to the people of Bloemfontein, thanks for the support. And please do come through, because the team looks forward to it when you’re around.”
