European bosses are believed to have signed an agreement for the Club Rugby World Cup in June 2028, with domestic leagues reportedly agreeing to accommodate it.
According to the UK’s Daily Mail, plans for the global competition took a massive step forward following the signing of a memorandum of understanding, which could see the likes of Leinster, Toulouse and Saracens lock horns with southern hemisphere outfits like the Crusaders, Brumbies and Chiefs.
It is believed that key decision-makers are open to rescheduling the finals of the French Top 14 and EPCR tournaments to May to make way for the new venture.

“Those weekends need to go somewhere. That is a big thing for France, the French have been very protective of their Top 14 final but there is a desire to do something different every four years,” the Daily Mail quoted a source.
It is also understood that the Champions Cup would run to the quarter-finals and feed into the World Club Cup.
