French clubs Toulon and Toulouse have both been sanctioned over breaching the Top 14’s salary cap with Cheslin Kolbe’s transfer in 2021.
According to a report by Midi Olympique’s RugbyRama, Toulouse and Toulon were both hit with financial penalties on Tuesday following a hearing on 9 October relating to Kolbe’s transfer between the two clubs.
The Springbok winger made a big money move from Toulouse to rivals Toulon in August 2021 for a reported contract buyout fee of €1.8 million (R36,9 million).
France rugby’s disciplinary committee specialising in the salary cap investigated potential breaches in the transfer and found both clubs guilty.
Toulouse have been fined €50,000 (R1 million) “for failure to comply with the general obligation of transparency and cooperation” while Toulon were sanctioned with a €70, 000 (R1,4 million) fine “for failure to comply with the general obligation of transparency and cooperation”.
