The full-back position is the most competitive area, and Watson has been moved to fullback. Josh Adams will be on one wing, and Louis Rees – Zammit will be on the other.

Gatland will also have to make tough decisions in the back row. He could go for flankers Tom Curry and Josh Navidi. Taulupe Faletau fits  in at No 8.

Sam Simmonds and Tadhg Beirne are also close to making an appearance on the bench.

Elliot Daly also put in an impressive performance playing centre in the opener.

Gatland also revealed that they told the players that some of the selections would be close based on the current state of affairs. Therefore, players are required to do their best whenever they get an opportunity.

On the Springboks side, their head coach Jacques Nienaber is in self-isolation after he tested positive for the coronavirus. As a result, he will hand over the baton to director Rassie Erasmus for the game on Wednesday.

The Springboks overcame Georgia in their first test. However, another game between the two was called off because of the coronavirus outbreak in the team.

The Lion’s coach acknowledged these challenges and claimed that he would understand if South Africa did not field their A-team during the match.

Willie le Roux might start at the back. Additionally, Cheslin Kolbe will feature on the wing, and Eben Etzebeth will play second row. Lukhayo Am, another World Cup winner, will be the captain in the absence of Kolisi.

Gatland also acknowledged that the tests would help them in their preparation. He also stated that the game would be an excellent indication of the state of both teams.
