Munster head coach Graham Rowntree is optimistic about Springbok double world champion RG Snyman’s potential early return to action in February.
Snyman, recovering from a chest injury sustained during the Rugby World Cup final in October, underwent surgery in November and was initially slated for a March comeback.
However, Rowntree revealed positive progress on the towering lock’s recovery in the buildup to the friendly between Munster and the Crusaders in Cork on Saturday.
“He trained today. His return is going to be a bit sooner potentially than the Zebre game [on March 1],” Rowntree said.

“He’s certainly encouraging me; he’s doing a lot more in training.”
Rowntree also recalled the former Vodacom Bulls star’s impactful return from knee ligament injuries in March 2023, propelling Munster to a remarkable series of away wins, culminating in the URC final triumph over the DHL Stormers in Cape Town.
Despite Snyman’s imminent departure to Irish giants Leinster at the season’s end, Rowntree praised the 29-year-old’s professionalism: “What’s done is done, this is business. He’s made his decision.
“He’s been quality for us. I’m interested to see what he does for Munster for the rest of the season. I’m sure he’ll give it his all.”
