The Crusaders’ pre-season kicks off with a sold-out match against Vodacom URC champions Munster at Páirc Uí Chaoimh on Saturday, as part of an historic northern tour.
Venturing beyond Australia and Fiji for the first time since 2019, the New Zealand giants continue their tour on 9 February against Bristol Bears at Ashton Gate Stadium in England.
This marks a unique challenge for the 12-time Super Rugby champions, in their first season without long-time coach Scott Robertson, and a rare opportunity to face formidable opponents outside their usual territory.
Several of the Crusaders‘ All Blacks stars have not made the trip out to England and Ireland, but Wales and British & Irish Lions icon Leigh Halfpenny headlines the squad to face Munster and Bristol that also includes props George Bower and Owen Franks, as well as ex-England international Willi Heinz.
Ryan Crotty is the only All Blacks back in the squad while New Zealand loose forward Cullen Grace also cracks the nod.

Páirc Uí Chaoimh, primarily a gaelic football ground, will host rugby for only the second time, with a full house of 40,885 expected.
“We’re very excited to get over there, the team is buzzing,” new Crusaders head coach Rob Penney told the club’s website.
“It’s a great opportunity for us to connect before the 2024 season properly starts, and to test ourselves against some mighty opponents.
“Travelling together, lining up against some big names in front of some big crowds, it’ll be huge for us in our prep.

Munster CEO Ian Flanaganan added: “The fact that Páirc Uí Chaoimh is hosting a Munster Rugby game for just the second time adds to the sense of occasion and allows for a wider audience to witness the landmark event.
“We have a rich history against touring sides and they are special for the club and our supporters, we’re really looking forward to welcoming the world-renowned Crusaders to Munster.”
Ashton Gate promises another historic occasion as rugby fans eagerly anticipate the clash with one of the world’s greatest clubs.
“Everybody at Bristol Bears is hugely excited to be welcoming the Crusaders to Bristol,” Bristol CEO Gavin Marshall said.
“We’re also seeing this excitement within our fanbase, with tickets are selling at an impressive rate and on course for another bumper crowd at Ashton Gate.”
