Eddie Jones is reportedly set to quit as head coach of Australia by exploiting a loophole in his contract, after a number of his backroom staff have been let go.
According to a report in the UK’s Daily Mail, the relationship between Jones and Rugby Australia has broken down after the governing body parted ways with several key members of his coaching staff, eroding the trust from the Wallaby tactician.
Notably, the departure of team manager Chris Webb, handpicked by Jones upon his arrival, marks a critical change in the team’s dynamics. It is believed that the removal of other support staff, including team psychologists, underscores the dwindling confidence in Jones.

Adding to the uncertainty, News Corp reports that an exit clause in Jones’s $4.5 million (R54m) contract has come to light. This clause permits him to terminate the agreement should the RA fail to secure private investment funding or establish a centralised model, both objectives yet unmet.
While Jones has repeatedly refuted rumours of his departure, reports from Japan continue to suggest he might return to coach the Brave Blossoms.
It is understood that triggering the exit clause would save the RA from the financial burden of Jones’ contract, slated to run until 2027.
Despite the mounting speculation, Jones last week expressed his commitment to the Wallabies, despite a disappointing World Cup campaign.
