Springbok flyhalf Elton Jantjies is reportedly set to join a South African franchise next season.
The absence of Jantjies’ name from French club Agen’s roster for the 2023-24 campaign has fueled speculation about a potential return to the Republic for the veteran playmaker.
Jantjies joined the Pro D2 outfit last year with a contract extending until 2024, but an article in newspaper Rapport suggests that the 33-year-old might be contemplating a shift back to his roots.
The Lions, his former union where he flourished from 2014 to 2020, have emerged as a possible destination amid reports of Jordan Hendrikse eyeing a move to the Sharks, and the Joburgers bolstering their flyhalf options with an injured Kade Wolhuter.

Jantjies – who last played for the Boks in August last year – was called up to the squad preparing for the Rugby Championship as injury cover for Handre Pollard and Damian Willemse, but has been released from the wider group.
He was left out of the squad that toured Europe last November as he was without a club and lacked match fitness.
It also followed headline coverage of an alleged affair with team dietician Zeenat Simjee and he was sent home while the Boks were in Argentina to face Los Pumas.
