Fans name Bok back as MVP against Wales

South Africa rallied to beat Six Nations champions Wales in Cardiff on Saturday and the fans have nominated the most valuable Springbok.

Jacques Nienaber’s team twice came from behind to claim the team’s first win in Cardiff since 2013, with replacement hooker Malcolm Marx scoring the decisive try seven minutes from time.

Elton Jantjies rounded off the scoring with the last kick of the match following five earlier Springbok penalties – four from flyhalf Handre Pollard and a monster effort from replacement Frans Steyn.

Steyn was named as the official man of the match after an influential performance off the bench at fullback.

His arrival on the field – as an initial HIA replacement for Damian Willemse in the 13th minute – provided the Springboks with plenty of experience in tough conditions at a rainswept Principality Stadium.

SARugbymag.co.za gave fans the opportunity to vote on the Springbok MVP and largely agreed with the official decision, as Steyn earned 48% of votes.

The Bok forwards were also duly rewarded for a dominant performance that smashed Wales backwards at the scrum with them struggling for continuity at the breakdown.

Kwagga Smith, who further enhanced his reputation with a storming showing at blindside flank, was given 20% of votes, and he was closely followed by the Bok scrum (17%) and captain Siya Kolisi (8%).
