Force stroll past Rebels

The Force claimed a comfortable 27-5 win against the Rebels in a trail match on the Gold Coast on Monday.

The Super Rugby warm-up match between the two Australian franchises was a one-sided affair as the Force comfortably overcome the visitors despite conceding an early try.

Rebels wing Steve Cummins opened the scoring after the Force were reduced to 14 men, but that was as good as it got for the visitors.

Force speedster Luke Morahan made a scintillating break before releasing South African-born flank Brynard Stander, who crossed to draw the sides level at 5-5. Tries by new recruits Bill Meakes and Chance Peni followed, which pushed the Force out to a 15-5 half-time lead.

The second half was less action-packed, but the Force did manage to breach the feeble Rebels defence for two more tries, by Morahan and Alex Newsome, to seal an emphatic win.

Force – Tries Brynard Stander, Bill Meakes, Chance Peni, Luke Morahan, Alex Newsome. Conversion: Morahan.
