French swooping for Stormers’ Bok?

The DHL Stormers are set to bid farewell to another Springbok forward following reports linking the veteran with a move to France.

Springbok prop Steven Kitshoff left the Stormers for Ulster after the United Rugby Championship final and, according to French publication Midi Olympique, Marvin Orie will soon be on his way out of Cape Town after becoming the subject of interest from Top 14 club Perpignan.

Having survived the promotion-relegation playoff to retain their place in France’s top-flight, Perpignan are reportedly looking to enlist Orie’s services to add experience to their pack and have made the Springbok an offer.

Perpignan have been on a shopping spree in the off-season, adding nine new faces to their squad, including South Africans Jaco van Tonder (fullback) and Nemo Roelofse (tighthead prop).

Orie, who joined the Stormers from the Lions in 2021, was a crucial part of the side that won the inaugural URC title, starting 17 times, including in the final against the Vodacom Bulls.

The 30-year-old has made a total of 42 appearances in all competitions for the Stormers and has also led the team when Kitshoff was unavailable.
